Watching Oprah was never my thing unless Julia Roberts was on. Molly and I would huddle up on our Navajo Lounge sofa in our college apartment and get a glimpse into her life behind the scenes…
Then I prayed for Courtney Cox to have a baby–and that’s when I realized I was inadvertently becoming an intercessor for the stars, as we jokingly refer to it. My pop culture love was crossing over into my prayer time…lookout Hollywood.
And now it’s in my earbuds! Off Camera with Sam Jones hands down dominates the podcast world for best insight into the lives of artists, actors, and musicians. In his words, he created the show “out of his passion for the long-form conversational interview”. Sam, himself a talented and highly sought after photographer and director, has worked with everyone it seems- from Barack O’Bama to Sandra Bullock, Bob Dylan to Jack Nicholson.
If you are interested in the life of an artist, this is a must-listen podcast. Ironically, you can even watch the podcasts being recorded if that’s more your jam.
Here are a few of my favorites.
Michael B. Jordan is a monster talent! The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, Fruitvale Station, Creed.
Elijah Wood needs no introduction. Hello Frodo.
Connie Britton could give an interview about her hair alone and I’d listen. Tami Taylor (Friday Night Lights) and Rayna James (Nashville). Did you know she narrowly beat out by Renee Zellweger for Jerry Maguire?
Colin Hanks is newer to me. Try Life in Pieces if you’re looking for a summer binge on Netflix.
David Oyelowo…. wow- Selma, The Butler, Queen of Katwe. He’s amazing.
Basically, Sam Jones is a crazy talent that actors, directors, and musicians all want to work with. And he lets us behind the scene and hear the backstory of these talented people. Totally worth a listen.
