If Camilla had a super power it would be a toss up. She’s clearly a dog whisperer, but her ability to put herself almost immediately to sleep in any situation rivals the speed of my dad falling asleep on a couch. She’s talented, y’all.
When we first had kids, there was such a push for a weekly date night- but newsflash- when our kids all went to bed by 7, every night was date night. Yes sometimes we needed and wanted to leave to do other things, but it was so easy to hang out after the kids were sleeping.
Fast forward to 2017 and we have 5 kids with 3 different bedtimes. During the school year, in theory, the littles go to bed by 7:30, the middles by 8:30 and Celia by 9:30. But as the days grow longer and summer sets in, I feel like we are swimming upstream trying to set bedtimes that make sense.
Dave and I are deep in discussions to find reasonable times for the summer fun bedtimes to kick in- last night I was so “peopled out”, I went to bed when the littles did- I just needed some quiet, reading time and shut eye, y’all. But it kept nagging at me, when should these people go to bed? Or at least to their bedrooms?
Here’s where we’re leaning….
Every night but Friday: 8, 9, 10 ***one night will be a reading night, where they head upstairs an hour early and can read or draw***
Friday: 9, 10, 11
I’m looking forward to later nights with more books, games, and movies to share. But these kids turn into small, tearful devils if they don’t get their sleep.
So how do y’all do summer bedtimes?
