It’s finally Friday and what a wet, wet week. It’s been all about a Chef’s Table, steroids, and book battles.
Dave introduced me to a show he’s loved for a while, a Chef’s Table. This week he’s channeling that chef-fy inspiration while prepping for a fab dinner he’s cooking this weekend for me and a couple of friends. Can’t spoil the menu yet, but without a doubt, seeing my man in the kitchen never gets old.
Summer colds + rain + asthma = steroids. Camilla’s rockin’ the roid-rage this week to kick this yucky stuff. She’s turning the corner thankfully, but man. No fun.
I’m battling my way through a book this week that is not a page turner but I’m committed to finishing. Americanah. Anybody read it?
It’s a tale of a Nigerian woman who comes to America, a Nigerian man who lands in the U.K. and how they find their way back home. Lots of fascinating themes discussed (one of which is hair, my favorite!) that revolve around the black experience in predominantly white countries and how those experiences are different given the country of origin.
“I came from a country where race was not an issue; I did not think of myself as black and I only became black when I came to America.”
Definitely a slower read for me but fraught with thought provoking themes for great discussions.
So that was my week. Here’s to a good week!
