What I’m reading…

Tracking books- I’ve never been one to do a great job of this. But since May I’ve been keeping my list pretty up to date. Here’s what I’ve been reading lately.

sanctuary of outcasts

In the Sanctuary of Outcasts by Neil White

This one is a book club pick this month. White’s memoir tells the story of his time in prison in Louisiana–a prison that is shared with the last leper colony in the continental US. He’s a fabulous writer but more than that I’ve been blown away by the ways leprosy was treated and how those suffering from the disease were mistreated. It’s a fantastic read.

homegoing

Homegoing by Yaa Gyaasi

This novel tells the story of 7 generations of a family stemming from two half-sisters, tracing the lineage of one family from Ghana and how their lives turned out very differently. Heartbreaking images of the slave trade and colonialism. I’m having a very hard time putting this one down.

I’m thankful to be out of my book slump!  What have y’all been reading lately?
